ElevenLabs sells voice in two directions at once. Creators buy self-serve subscriptions billed in characters of generated speech, from a free tier up to studio plans — a cheap, high-volume funnel fed by hackathons, creator payouts and viral demos. Enterprises buy the API, where dubbing, audiobooks and real-time voice agents are billed by usage and locked in with annual commitments.
The API is where the money compounds. Once a support agent or a media pipeline speaks with an ElevenLabs voice, swapping providers means re-recording a brand, so retention holds even as model prices fall. The cost side mirrors Cursor's: inference is a real COGS line, so margin depends on running its own models efficiently rather than reselling someone else's.

FAQ
Voice subscriptions and usage credits often land in the same account. Clink handles hybrid billing, checkout and merchant-of-record tax for audio APIs.
